The Ryzen 7 5825U Inside The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3

The Ryzen 7 5825U is an eight-core, sixteen-thread mobile chip that boosts to 4.5 GHz with integrated Radeon graphics. It is an older generation than the Ryzen 7 260 in the Acer Nitro V 16S, but eight cores is still more than any other laptop under $700 in our Computing section, and Radeon integrated graphics are a step up from Intel UHD for light creative work and older games.

Paired with 16GB of memory and a 512GB NVMe SSD, this configuration has the most balanced specification of the mid-priced laptops we cover. The listing gives the memory maximum as 16GB, so what ships is what you keep.

Integrated Radeon graphics share system memory, so the 16GB installed here is doing double duty. That is another reason this configuration matters: an 8GB version of the same laptop would leave much less for applications once the graphics have taken their share.

Touchscreen, Privacy Camera And Numeric Keypad

The 15.6-inch panel is a capacitive touchscreen at 1920 x 1080 and 300 nits, the only touchscreen among the Windows laptops in our Computing section. Touch is useful for scrolling documents, signing PDFs and presenting, and 300 nits is a published brightness figure that the MacBook Air M5 listing does not give.

The 720p camera carries a privacy feature, which on Lenovo laptops is a physical shutter, and the full-size keyboard has a numeric keypad. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 are a generation ahead of the Lenovo V15 Gen 4’s 802.11ac.

Speakers are listed at 2 x 1.5W, which is modest and typical at this price, so plan on headphones for anything beyond video calls. The keyboard is full size with a numeric keypad, the same layout as the Lenovo V15 Gen 4 and the Dell 15 in our Computing section, which matters to anyone who types figures all day.

What The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Listing Leaves Out

The entire product description reads: “Web vision Including Word, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access”. It appears to refer to Microsoft Office web apps rather than a bundled licence, and the specification table lists Microsoft Office under automatic backup software. A buyer should not assume a paid Office licence is included.

Everything useful about this laptop comes from the specification table instead, which is detailed: processor, memory speed, slot count, brightness, refresh rate, speaker wattage and battery capacity are all published. The description is the weakest of the twelve computers we cover; the table is among the best.

The table gives the part number as 15ABR8 and the colour as Arctic Grey, which is enough to find the matching model on Lenovo’s own support site for drivers and the official specification sheet. That is the quickest way to settle the Windows edition and weight questions raised below.

Limitations

The listing contradicts itself on the operating system: the title says Windows 11 Home and the specification table says Windows 11 Pro. It also gives the weight as 3.17 kg, about 7 pounds, which is implausible for a laptop 0.7 inches thick and is probably a shipping weight. Check both on the order page.

The battery is 26 watt-hours, the joint smallest of the laptops here, with no runtime claim, and the 60Hz screen supports one external monitor through HDMI 1.4. 138 ratings is the smallest evidence base of any laptop in our Computing section.

The warranty is described as a one-year seller warranty in one field and 1 year limited coverage in another, which suggests this listing may be from a reseller rather than Lenovo directly. Before buying, check who the seller is on the order page and whether Lenovo’s own warranty applies, because a reseller warranty is only as good as the reseller.

Setting Up This Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3

Setup begins with checking which Windows edition is installed, since the listing disagrees with itself, and whether any Office licence is attached to the device. Then run Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage before installing your own software.

Calibrate the touchscreen only if taps land off target, close the privacy shutter when not on calls, and keep the charger nearby: a 26Wh battery will not last a full working day of heavy use.

If you rely on a second monitor, note the single HDMI 1.4 port and the listing’s limit of one supported external display. The listing does not promise display output over USB-C, so check before buying a dock.

Who Should Buy This Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3?

Buy it if you want eight Ryzen cores, 16GB of memory, a 512GB SSD and a touchscreen for under $700, for schoolwork, office work and light photo editing. It is the best-specified mid-priced laptop in our Computing section.

Students who take notes by hand on screen should check pen support first: the listing describes a capacitive touchscreen but does not mention an active pen, so assume finger input only.

Skip it if you need Ethernet or Windows 11 Pro for certain, where the Lenovo V15 Gen 4 is the safer choice. Skip it if you want a long battery life or a seller-backed listing with a clean description, and confirm the operating system and weight before ordering.

The Verdict

Scored 8.0. This laptop offers the strongest combination of processor, memory, storage, screen and wireless of any laptop around $700 we cover: Ryzen 7 5825U, 16GB, 512GB NVMe, a 300-nit touchscreen, Wi-Fi 6 and a privacy camera.

It loses points for a one-line description, a title and specification table that disagree about Windows, an implausible weight, a 26Wh battery, a reseller-style warranty and only 138 ratings. Good hardware; buy it with the order page open.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 — Frequently Asked Questions

Does this configuration have a touchscreen?

This configuration does: a 15.6-inch Full HD capacitive touchscreen at 300 nits, according to the specification table.

Does it come with Microsoft Office?

The description mentions Word, Excel and other Office apps alongside “Web vision”, which most likely means the free web versions. Do not assume a paid licence is included.

Can I add more RAM?

The listing gives a 16GB maximum, which is what is installed, so memory cannot be upgraded. There is one M.2 slot for storage.

Is it Windows 11 Home or Pro?

The title says Home and the specification table says Pro. Check the order page or ask the seller before buying if the edition matters.
