Four Thousand Six Hundred Ratings, and the Price Question They Do Not Answer

This is the most owned product in the comparison by a clear margin — 4,693 ratings at 4.4 — and in a category
where nobody publishes a drying performance figure, that is not nothing. The chamber is genuinely large at
9.29 × 6.49 × 9.13 inches, it takes two 1 kg spools, and the sealing arrangement is the most thoroughly described of
the five: a silicone cable sheath, a Teflon outlet tube with a plug for when it is not in use, and a snap-button lid.

The difficulty is what sits beside it in this comparison. The Sovol reviewed above is also an SH01, with the same
two-spool layout, the same 40–50°C band and the same 6–12 hour timer, at $39.59. This one is $43.99. That is $4.40, or 11 percent more, for a box whose published specification differs mainly in being described more carefully. When this comparison was first written the same two boxes stood $4.40 apart, or 58 percent — so the gap that made this the worst value here has very largely closed, and the brand premium turns out to be the least stable thing about an SH01.

A Filament Dryer for PETG That Stops Below PETG’s Useful Range

The listing’s own wording is unusually frank: adjustable temperature range 40 to 50°C, the maximum temperature
is only 50°C. The word “only” is Comgrow’s. It is worth dwelling on because PETG appears in the product title, and
50°C is the bottom of the band PETG is usually dried in rather than the middle of it.

The reason that matters comes down to glass transition. A polymer gives up absorbed water fastest just below the
temperature at which it starts to soften, and for PETG that softening point is appreciably higher than PLA’s 55–60°C.
A 50°C ceiling is a safe, conservative setting that will dry PETG given enough hours — 12 rather than 6 — and will
never dry nylon, polycarbonate or PAHT at all.

The Specification Table Is Where This One Falls Down

Four fields do not survive reading. The Manufacturer field reads “Creality 3D” while the
Brand Name reads Comgrow — a different company named as the maker, on the listing’s own page.
Number of Items and Number of Packs both read 2 for what is one box.
Material Type reads “Polylactic Acid”, describing the appliance as made of PLA. And the
Model Number reads AK36WG-1200400J, which is the designation pattern of a 36-watt power adapter
rather than of a dryer.

Taken individually these are data-entry slips. Taken together on a product that costs 58 percent more than an
otherwise comparable box, they are the clearest illustration available of what the premium is actually buying, which
is not specification quality. No warranty term appears anywhere; the nearest thing offered is a promise of a support
reply within 24 hours.

Filament dryer for petg — Limitations

The 50°C ceiling is the hard limit, and the listing says so in its own words. Nylon, PC and PAHT are out
entirely, and PETG — named in the product title — is being dried at the conservative end of its range. Twelve-hour
cycles rather than six are the practical answer.

The price was the real problem and has mostly stopped being one. At $43.99 it is $4.40 more than the Sovol SH01 and $11.70 more than the SUNLU S1
Plus, which offers a wider 35–55°C adjustable range and a 1–99 hour timer. Nothing in the published specification
explains the gap.

No warranty term is stated. Both sub-$40 units in this comparison state one year plainly. The specification table
also contradicts itself on item count and names a different manufacturer than the brand.

Like the rest of the category it shows a humidity reading without saying what reading is good enough, and the
sealing hole has to be left open while the box is working, so the much-described seal is not doing anything during the
drying cycle itself.

Setting Up This Filament dryer for petg

Run 12-hour cycles rather than 6 and accept the 50°C ceiling as the trade. With PETG in particular the extra
time is what compensates for the conservative temperature; there is no setting above 50°C to reach for.

Open the sealing hole while the box is working and close it afterwards. The listing is explicit that moisture needs
a route out during drying and that the hole should be plugged when the box is being used for storage. Load the
filament counter-clockwise so the bottom pulley feeds properly, which the listing also specifies.

Set temperature and duration after switching on and confirm the working state appears on the screen. Comgrow warns
that if the work mode is not displayed the motherboard shuts down after three minutes — a genuine usability trap worth
knowing about before concluding the unit is faulty.

Who Should Buy This Filament dryer for petg?

Anyone who wants the most widely owned box in the category and values a large, well-sealed two-spool chamber
with a described outlet arrangement over having the best price. The 4,693 ratings are a real reassurance and the
chamber is the roomiest of the three budget boxes here.

Skip it on price alone if the Sovol SH01 is available, because it is substantially the same box for $4.40 less, though that is a far smaller reason to than it once was.
Skip it if engineering filament matters, and skip it if a stated warranty matters — this listing has none.

The Verdict

As a filament dryer for petg this works, with the caveat that it works slowly. A large 9.29 × 6.49 × 9.13
inch chamber, two 1 kg spools, a carefully described silicone-and-Teflon outlet, a snap-button lid and real-time
temperature and humidity monitoring, behind the largest body of owner feedback in the comparison at 4,693 ratings.
Nothing about it is bad.

It finishes last at 7.5 on value rather than function, and that score was set when it cost $4.40 more than its twin rather than $4.40. It is the same SH01 two-spool, 40–50°C, 6–12 hour box as
the Sovol, now only $4.40 dearer; it states no warranty where both cheaper units state one year; its 50°C ceiling is below
PETG’s comfortable range despite PETG being in the title; and its specification table names Creality 3D as the
manufacturer, counts one box as two, calls the appliance polylactic acid and puts a power-adapter code in the model
field. Popularity is not the same as the best buy.

Filament dryer for petg — Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a good filament dryer for petg?

It will dry PETG, but conservatively. The listing states a 40–50°C range and calls 50°C the maximum, which is the lower end of the band PETG is usually dried in, so 12-hour cycles work better than six-hour ones.

Why is it more expensive than the Sovol SH01?

On the published specifications, it is not clear. Both are SH01-family boxes taking two spools with a 40–50°C range and a 6–12 hour timer; this one is $43.99 and the Sovol is $39.59. The difference is $4.40.

Why does the listing name Creality 3D as the manufacturer?

The Manufacturer field reads Creality 3D while the Brand Name reads Comgrow. The listing does not explain it. Several other fields are also inconsistent, including an item count of 2 for a single box.

What happens if the screen does not show a working state?

Comgrow warns that if the work mode is not displayed after setting temperature and duration, the motherboard shuts down automatically after three minutes. Setting both values and confirming the state appears is part of normal operation.
